Peak oil crisis?
Whatever anyone thinks about the peak oil movement, spare a thought for the believers. It hasn’t been an easy few months. When oil was nearing $150/b peak oilers were riding high. Websites like the excellent Oil Drum were enjoying bumper traffic and the warm inner glow of being proved right. Since the collapse in oil prices, the argument has lost some of its friends and a bit of its urgency. Has peak oil peaked?
Now one of its gurus, Robert Hirsch, has sent a missive to peak oil’s movers and shakers warning them to chill out for a while — at least until the financial crisis passes. Question: if the peak oil claim is true, why on earth should peak oilers keep shtum about it?
We’ll be posting more thoughts, based on an interview with one of the peak oil movement’s eloquest spokesmen, Jeremy Leggett, a bit later.
